Why have I moved 3 successful albums from Spotify, Apple, Youtube etc. to Bandcamp?
- I wish to make my music available to people unable to access or unable to pay for my music – I have a number of of young people who are unable to listen to my music, because they reside in countries where free Spotify is not available, or which do not allow access to Spotify. They can now download those albums free from Bandcamp and play it without streaming charges. Much of my sheet music is free for young and old musicians to download and over the years many of my tracks were available to download free from one of my website. I had to withdraw this facility due to high bandwith issues as a result of bots taking them. I chose to transfer 3 popular albums which have had in excess of 320K Spotify streams in the last year.
- I believe that Bandcamp offers better facilities to let my followers know when I am releasing new albums
- Revenues from streaming on Spotify etc. continue to reduce drastically. My streaming revenue has gone to charity since I started and although my number of streams has doubled my revenue has stayed pretty static
- Streaming stats can become a bit obsessive – e specially for people like me – I’ve proved that I could achieve 3 million streams – moving to Bandcamp will give more time to relx (unless I become obsessive about Bandcamp stats!!!
- Bandcamp will offer me the chance to try things and release tracks and albums which I wouldn’t attempt to do on Spotify
- My music can played without the adverts which they currently get on Youtube and Free Spotify
- Anyone who downloads my music will be able to add the new tracks to Spotify and Apple playlists – the facilities are available in Spotify and Apple help list
